LECTURA-COMUNICADO

Since 6 am today, ejidatarios [communal landholders] of the three regions that make up the ejido Bachajón, adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle, along with ejidatarios who are not adherents, peacefully regained their territory located in the area endowed to the ejido, in the official municipality of Chilón which borders the municipality of Tumbalá and the village of Agua Azul. The access road to the “Agua Azul Waterfalls” Ecotourism Centre crosses these lands.

The ejidatarios remind us that on 2nd February, 2011, the government of Juan Sabines Guerrero and Noe Castañón León, in collusion with the then ejidal commissioner Francisco Guzman Jimenez, alias “the goyito,” sent police and military forces to violently displace those who were in the common lands, where…
